I wanted to add a "library-sized" set to my collection and saw this one on the RCM website. I expected this set to be lighter and smaller, but it's better described as stocky, but in a charming way. The acacia looks great and the design of the bishop really looks like a bishop's miter, yet is done with a strong and durable design. The horizontal lines on the rooks give them a brick tower looks and adds a touch of class. And it's a great value.
This is a short, stout yet cute set. Style-wise it combines the practical elements of the Staunton style with design elements from Calvert style sets, clearly seen in the queen, bishops, knights and rooks. I especially like that they found particularly dark acacia wood for the dark side. I'll definitely be bringing this one with me to the cafe to show it off.
Note, I already submitted a review, but apparently it wasn't a "verified" review.
Pieces are beautiful and heavy, I recommend!!
As advertised; delivered quickly; great product. Recommended for chess buyers.
Very high-quality set, especially for the money. A great value! The ideal pieces for a medium size analysis setup. Fits perfectly on a 2" board. King actually measures 3.25", including finial.
